About CNC Machining & Design Guidelines

CNC machining is more than cutting material to shape—it demands expert DFM review, smart fixturing, and toolpath strategy to hit tolerances, maintain surface finish, and ensure features are manufacturable. Proper validation and inspection turn your CAD into strong, accurate, functional parts ready for real-world use.

Know Your Output, Technically

From quick-turn prototypes to end-use production, our CNC machining delivers tight tolerances, excellent surface finishes, and repeatable quality.

Wall Thickness For CNC

For CNC machining, minimum wall thickness isn’t a fixed number—it depends on the material, wall height, and the tolerances you need to hold.

Hole Diameter, For CNC

Holes as small as 0.5 mm may be possible only with specialized micro-drilling (typically shallow depths) and can increase cost and variability

Our Origin: Made from Failure, Built for Makers

We started as a small hardware team with a big dream—and ran straight into manufacturing walls: missed tolerances, blown timelines, and costs we couldn’t control. That failure hurt, but it lit a fire. We promised to make manufacturing simpler, faster, and fairer for every maker who dares to build—and we put that promise in our name: Make(nica).

Frequent questions & answers

Answers to commonly asked questions about our platform

CNC machining is an industrial manufacturing process in which a pre-programmed computer software dictates the movement of factory tools and respective machinery. The CNC process can be used to control a range of complex machinery, from grinders and lathes to mills and routers. With CNC machining, three-dimensional cutting tasks on metal or plastic blocks can be accomplished in a single set of prompts.
We support three types of CNC Machining Services as follows: -5-axis CNC Machining Service -3+2-axis CNC Milling Service -5-axis CNC Turning Service More than 100 metals and plastics are supported for CNC Machining
CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control and it is used in CNC Machining Service to carve out access material from a block of metal or plastic to get finished parts. 5 Axis Machines allows achieving greater precision with tighter tolerance that results in amazing end parts.
CNC Milling Service involves a rotating cutting tool/bit that removes chips from the desired material when brought into contact with the CNC work-piece. CNC Milling moves laterally to carve out the excess materials and the precision depends on the size of the milling bit.
CNC Turning Service utilizes rotating the material as well as the work-piece in order to deliver parts with complex geometries. The most common example for CNC Turning is the CNC Lathe Service which creates cylindrical shapes by turning a shaft on the machine.
CNC milling uses a rotating machine tool, while CNC turning uses a rotating part for cutting. CNC Milling requires 5-axis where the part doesn't move whereas the CNC Turning has 2-axis where part moves in two axis as well.
The minimum order quantity is 1 CNC Part.
Almost any category that sells physical products use CNC Machining for making injection molding parts. Some of those industries are: Automotive Mould Aircraft Parts Home Appliance Mould Household Plastic Mould Medical Molding Connector Mould Crate Mould Package Mould Optical Reflectors Cooking Utensils Medical Devices Handles and Knobs
Every CNC service order includes our standard inspection file that includes reports and certifications such as: Critical dimensions Quantity of parts Removal of sharp edges and burrs Number of parts inspected Surface finish Threads and tolerances Full dimensional inspection report CNC Material/CNC Mill test report ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO27001, and IATF 16949 certifications
For CNC Machining Servicing, we have more than 70+ metals across Aluminium, Copper, Steel, Magnesium available. Tool steel H13 Brass C360 Titanium Grade 2 Titanium Grade 1 Copper C110 Copper C101 Magnesium AZ31B Stainless steel 15-5 Alloy steel 4140 Alloy steel 4340 Alloy steel 1215 Tool steel D2 Tool steel A2 Tool steel O1 Tool steel S7 Stainless steel 2205 Duplex Stainless steel 303 Stainless steel 420 Stainless steel 17-4 Stainless steel 301 Stainless steel 416 Stainless steel 430 Stainless steel 440C Aluminum 7075-T6 Aluminum 6082 Aluminum 5083 Aluminum 2014 Aluminum 2017 Aluminum 2024 Aluminum 6063 Aluminum 7050 Aluminum A380 Aluminum MIC6 Stainless steel 304L Stainless steel 316L Aluminum 6061-T6 Mild steel 1018 Mild steel 1045 Mild steel A36 Aluminum 5052 Tool steel A3
Plastics are easily CNC Machined although not all plastics can withstand the pressure of the CNC Machines. Here is a selection of materials that are supported by our CNC Machines: ABS PC (Polycarbonate) Acrylic PEEK Delrin (Acetal) Polypropylene Garolite G-10 PTFE (Teflon) Nylon 6/6 UHMW PE
With our CNC Parts, you can choose from various surfaces finishes such as: As machined (Ra 3.2µm, 126µin) Bead blasted + Anodized type II (Matte) Smooth machining (Ra1.6µm, 63 µin) Smoothed + Anodized type II (Glossy) Brushed (1.2 Ra µm/47 Ra µin) Anodized type III (Hardcoat) Powder-coated Chromate Conversion Coating (Alodine) Bead blasted Electroless Nickel Plating Brushed + Electropolished (Ra0.8µm, 32µin) Silver Plating Black oxide Gold Plating
While there are many benefits to CNC Machining Service, we have summed up a few that are highly critical: Highly precise and repeatable Suitable for many different kinds of materials Scalable volumes from 1 to 100,000 Low investment in tooling and preparation costs Economical and Fastest turnaround time
For a standard part that we checked on our in-house CNC Machines, costs for various processes are as follows: 3D Printing -> INR 4500 for 1 part CNC machining -> INR 7000 for 1 part Urethane Casting -> INR 4000 for 1 part Injection Molding -> INR 60 for 1 part with cost of mold starting at INR 70,000
Here are some ways to reduce the overall cost of your CNC Machining manufacturing: Rounded Internal Corners ≤ 3:1 Avoid Deep Pockets / Limit the Depth of Cavities Limit Use of Tight Tolerances Avoid (Multiple) Surface Finishes Remove all Text & Lettering Avoid Small Features with High Aspect Ratio Specify Tolerances only when Necessary Design Holes with Standard Size Increase the Thickness of Thin Walls Use Standard Drill and Tap Hole Sizes Choose Quantity and Turnaround Time Tradeoffs
